I don't remember
What my face
Looked like before
Tiny thin crows
Feet began to
Faintly form
Around my eyes
And laugh lines
Around my mouth
Forming a paranthesis
Both of which were
Caused by laughing a lot
But I'm proud
Of these spider web
Wrinkles that will
Deepen over time.

Hi, Lori. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. I am glad for the chance to "discover" you. I have to tell you that I love the beautiful, healthy attitude conveyed in this post. When did it become such a crime to age? I can't believe how many people ask me if I am going to color my hair. Heck NO!! Well, on most days my answer is a heck no.

Good for you. My mom taught me to appreciate aging.

Thank you both Relyn and Ruth! My mom has a positive attitude about aging too. I love that! I'm 32 and when I looked in the mirror about a year ago I noticed these lines and I was thinking when and where did these come from?! It has taken a year to be able to get some words to paper about it though. I do wish that people would see aging as something wonderful though.

Thanks for the comments you left on my blog.

It is great to hear someone's pride in their age rather than just complaining about it!

Thank you! It is a process to that find that pride, especially in our society where youth is worshipped, but it's time for us to love with compassion who we are - love ourselves for being ourself.

Aging is a blessing.
Our outer shells can do what they will, it's high time our society focused on what matters, the core.
I loved getting your comment, thank you so much!

Wonderful usage of imagery.

Question - are you from Suwanee, GA? I am wondering if you are Christina's friend who has been stopping by my blog.

Come back now, hear!

Hi,
Thank you so much for the comment about my imagery.
Yes, you are correct on all accounts I am from Atlanta, Georgia, and I'm one of Christina's friends, and I have been browsing your blog. I didn't leave a comment on there, (I'm a bit shy) but I really enjoyed your creative, honest posts. Thanks!

I do hope that you eventually comment. My blog is a warm place. ;)

I'll admit that poetry is usually not my "thing." It took a graduate class to "kill" it for me.

Lori said...

Thank you. I know that it a warm inviting place, but I'm shy. Oh yes those classes do it for you. Were you writing poetry or were you studying the classics? I'm not too much into the classics or anything like that. Give me some Plath, Ginseberg, Angelou, Olds, Oliver, and Rumi, my favorites, I could read those all day! :)
